Collars are big right now and are here to stay for autumn and winter. Contrary to popular belief, collars are not only for men! Everywhere you look you are bound to see someone wearing the latest collar fashion trend. What I love about this new trend is that you can do it yourself and also decide how you want to wear a collar – in fact, the more eccentric, bold and fabulous the better! Collars can be worn in a myriad of different ways from studded to plain, colourful, bearing animal prints – the sky is the limit!
Take inspiration from the following ways in which to rock the collar fashion trend:
Go Dotty!
Pull off a polka dot collar easily and tastefully by opting for a detachable collar to complete a simple, elegant look. Alternatively, wear a polka dot blouse and add chunky jewellery for a more formal and sophisticated ensemble. Either way, pair polka dots with a single monochromatic colour so as not to go overboard!
Plaid Shirt Collars With A Necklace
Prefer a laidback, country girl look combined with elegant sophistication? Opt for colour coordinating using a plaid shirt and simple pullover! Ensure the check print of the collar shows above the pullover. Then add a large, fancy necklace (in the same colour as the shirt) to create a more formal appearance.
Old-School Style
Create a unique appearance with the combination of a formal blouse combined with either a sports jersey or cardigan. The jersey or cardigan adds a definite informal element to the outfit yet the shoes and accessories are elegant and create an interesting contrast of old-school and contemporary.
Vintage & Denim Blue Hues
Opt for either a vintage look (left) with old-school printed blouse and collar in blue. Pair this with a knee-length skirt in a similar hue. Add retro glasses (in a completely different colour!) and a clutch to complete a vintage-inspired outfit.
Alternatively, wear a full denim outfit (right) to achieve the latest free-spirited, casual look. Denim shirts are easy to find and are a massive fashion hit right now. The denim look is simple and sporty. Achieve a scruffy, laidback look with a denim collar shirt (with rolled up sleeves), frayed denim shorts and add a splash of colour with a tan belt or bag. Don’t be afraid to wear different shades of denim all in one outfit!
