A Bird Named Frank’s product range comprises distinct and quaint designs that embrace natural elements. Pieces are made from scratch from sourced components and found objects. The range is filled with a myriad of fabrics, buttons, coins, trinkets and resin casts evincing the timeless charm of the brand.
Designers Caryn Fourie and Peter Campbell feel that subtlety, fine detail, muted tones and quality of craftsmanship, along with a focus on creating wearable pieces, are just some of the elements which truly define their creations. As the brand’s name suggests, Fourie and Campbell pour their passion and love of the natural environment into their designs. Broaches and necklaces in the shape of birds, owls, foxes, horses and hounds are intended to arouse nostalgia in the wearer.
A Bird Named Frank praises that which is pretty and upholds the feminine. The brand highly regards natural elements fostering an almost organic and back to basics allure. Colours are neutral and earthy and items can thus be worn with almost any outfit. Minimalist design is clearly underlined throughout the range and hence creations appeal to those youthful and free at heart but also to those who endeavor to keep up to date with the latest fashion trends.
Geometric shapes are another important facet of the brand and convey a contemporary slant to the designs whilst at the same time focusing on the splendor of contours, colours and abstractions. Long and thin-chained necklaces with trinkets dangling from the end are a unique offering of the range and no doubt a talking point. These charm necklaces are all the rage and are best worn together with textured, button-shaped earrings encapsulating a true 1900’s sophistication and elegance.
“We have a new-found love and subsequent obsession for silver, brass and wood. Our designs have always been simple, but we have now moved even further towards minimalist aesthetic designs and we are currently playing with a lot of geometric shapes,” says Fourie.
With backgrounds in fashion design and fine art respectively, Fourie and Campbell work together to produce this quirky jewellery range that is both feminine but at the same time playful and nostalgic. A Bird Named Frank officially began in the middle of 2010 but the designers had already been producing pieces and supplying shops for about a year before during their studies. The team now designs and creates products from their home and studio in Muizenberg.
All items are made with love and utmost care and you’ll know that the piece you purchase is particularly unique and beautifully packaged.
