Joy Jewellery brings a completely unique approach to the local fashion industry with designs embracing the originality of Africa and all it has to offer. Leather knotted bracelets, silver-coloured charms and precious stones are synonymous with the brand.
There is an ethereal freedom and a somewhat bohemian spirit to these striking designs. Items are feminine and colourful, and embrace the creativity and uniqueness of varied cultures within our country.
Tinged with a rustic-style charm, colour is the most important element in the designs. Items have a bold street edge to them, albeit with a feminine twist. The attention to detail, no matter how simple, is very important. The use of natural substances such as leather, crystal, semi-precious stones, metal and glass are crucial in the creation of the products and designer Jenna Engledoe continuously looks to create new concepts and materials that can be utilised in her designs.
Originality is the first and foremost objective of the brand and hence these designs are timeless pieces that can be a part of your wardrobe forever. Joy Jewellery’s designs appeal to all kinds of females, especially to those who desire to add a carefree and youthful element to their wardrobe whilst at the same time expressing their individuality.
These handmade wonders can be worn with almost any outfit and will no doubt be a talking point for all who see them. They work well with both neutral and bright colours and finish off an outfit beautifully.
Exquisite leather necklaces are of the highest quality and are distinct in design. Chunky leather-roped bracelets in a myriad of colours further elucidate the brand’s unique African influence. Metal clasps on bracelets and necklaces are intricate and highlight the designer’s attention to detail and focus on quality.
The natural element is particularly pertinent throughout all Joy Jewellery’s creations and the careful combination of silver-coloured metal, together with a single colour and combined natural material makes for a striking piece that can be worn on any occasion.
Engledoe, who is self-taught, says that creating and designing is like food for the soul. It’s a passion that runs through her veins and without her creative work she says she would not survive. She takes inspiration from life and from her surroundings. “I live, breathe and feel what I do,” says Engledoe who won the Smirnoff Fashion Awards Competition in 2003. “Jewellery was always a hobby and it is now my full-time career focus”.
